Food budget Friday, May 12

My food spending went pretty well this week! My budget is $100 and this week I spent $72. Each week is different but I love to see that number go down. Woohoo!!

I wasn’t skimpy on the groceries either. I bought healthy food such as veggies, beans and rice but also a lot of fun foods like chips, chocolate pudding, and seltzer water. I assume if I bought less treat foods that my grocery bill would go down a lot more. But what is life without a few treats?

I went out to eat fast food a few times and I spent around $10. That number is included in my weekly total.

Want to see some of the groceries I bought? Here is my shopping from May 6 and May 11.

I hope you have a beautiful and blessed day!!

Food budget Friday, Dec 9: Visiting with friends edition

photo4.JPGI’m so grateful to have nice friends it is a huge blessing. I really value the people in my life and am so happy when I get to spend time with them : )

I was a bit more social than usual this week and ended up eating out at restaurants three times. Which is three times more than I normally do (or at least prefer to do)!

Generally I try and meet up with friends for coffee or a walk and then eat at home. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I ended up being over budget this week by about $23. The eating out was part of it, but I have to confess another part of it was buying binge food. I had a tough week with overeating and ended up bingeing a couple of times. When I binge I buy expensive, pre-made convenience foods such as cookies, chips, pizza and ice cream to soothe myself. Which of course only works in the moment.

The binge foods eventually always make me feel worse: ashamed, sick, like a failure, and a bit poorer from spending money that I shouldn’t have spent.

I was reflecting on why I binged this week and I think it was mostly triggered by fear and anxiety. Most things in my life are basically fine, but nevertheless fear and anxiety have been a lifelong struggle for me. When I get overwhelmed my outlet is often, unfortunately, food. This week showed me that working to heal those two issues will hopefully get me further along with healing my binge eating.

My current grocery budget is $100/week. I eventually would like to reduce that to $75-85/week.

Spending for the week:

  • 12/3: $14.10
  • 12/4: $5.12
  • 12/5: $15.44
  • 12/6: $15.94
  • 12/7: $52.11
  • 12/8: 21.01
  • 12/9: $0

Total: $124.22

Food budget Friday, Dec 2

photo2.jpgWow! Is it December already?? Amazing how time flies!

I’m finally back from visiting my mom in California. I was so happy to spend time with her and enjoy the beautiful nature.

I was over budget this week by about $22, but it’s really no surprise. I’m not too upset about it. Between needing to buy food at my mom’s house, eating out a few times while traveling (at inexpensive places…but it still adds up) and needing to restock when I got home, I’m amazed I’m not over budget by more!

I’ve been traveling a lot recently the last two months, but to be honest I really prefer stability and staying at home. I like being able to stick to my routine 🙂 I’m hoping I’ll be home for at least a month, but then I may be on the road again.

My current grocery budget is $100/week. I eventually would like to reduce that to $75-85/week.

Spending for the week:

  • 11/26: $3.55
  • 11/27: $1.25
  • 11/28: $0
  • 11/29: $30.27
  • 11/30: $9.79
  • 12/1: $49.39
  • 12/2: $28.04

Total: $122.29

Food budget Friday, Nov 18

fruit3Hello everyone! I am in California visiting my mom for Thanksgiving week. I’m grateful to spend time with her and also enjoy the nice weather : )

This week my spending was a bit over budget, by almost $10. This is for a couple reasons: I had run out of a lot of basic groceries early this week so needed to restock (rice, bread, ketchup, etc); I impulse bought some junk food (this always makes my food bill higher than I’d like); and finally I was flying/traveling for most of the day today so I ended up eating out twice for both lunch and dinner.

Normally I try to cook most of my meals at home. I actually really prefer eating at home because that way I have better control over the ingredients and the cost is almost always much lower.

I’ve also been traveling a lot recently, which although it can be fun, it takes a lot of effort for me to keep to a regular routine. I love routine, I am super boring that way 🙂 Sticking to a routine is very helpful for me with my eating disorder because that way my life is more predictable, which I prefer. I like to know what I’m going to eat, what time I’m having my meals, etc.

However life is not always so predictable, so I just have to do the best with what I have. Hopefully things will settle down tomorrow and I can get back into a routine again while I’m at my mom’s house.

My current grocery budget is $100/week. I eventually would like to reduce that to $75-85/week.

Spending for the week:

  • 11/12: $26.41
  • 11/13: $18.43
  • 11/14: $23.30
  • 11/15: $13.87
  • 11/16: $4.67
  • 11/17: $4.76
  • 11/18: 18.49

Total: $109.88
